Yes, You Can Wear...
I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again.
I have a love hate relationship with trends. Sometimes (often times) there are trends that we just cringe at. But then again, sometimes those trends grow on us whether we like it or not and we end up with a list of things we never thought we would wear. So yes, you can wear _____. What’s on your list?
One: Men’s Blazer
Or any loose fitting, plaid/tartan/check/black blazer for that matter. This is one of those things that makes me laugh and inspired this entire blog post because I remember thinking this was the ugliest look ever and the least feminine outfit you could imagine. Surprise! Now I think the complete opposite. Could this be one of those magical items that makes you feel put together without trying too hard? Achieving the French girl je ne sais quoi is near impossible but this staple item seems to bring me one step closer every time (i hope). My go-to way for styling a blazer, especially during fall (!!!), is with my favorite jeans, a fitted top, and simple jewelry. Heels are a game changer if you want to step it up even more.
two: Slip dress over a tee
UGH the 90s. I am obsessed with fashion history and the styles of the decades but let me tell you that aside from the 80s, the 90s was always next in line for my least favorite decades of the 20th century. Of course, after the past five-something years, some how we have made certain aspects of the late 90s and early 00s trends more accessible and less aggressive. I realized that inspiration from a decade of the past does not always mean the stereotypical trends that automatically come to mind. Do some digging and you may find a version of your favorite outfit from Clueless that suits you more than you thought.
three: Kick flare jeans
Not much to say here other than if you have been reading en Rose since day one, you may remember this little blog post here (many thanks if that includes you). Nothing has changed and I am still obsessed with these jeans.
four: Wide leg pants
Thank you Madewell for allowing me to venture into the world of wide-leg pants or culottes as some like to call them. My boyfriend, as I am sure I have mentioned before, refers to them as “wind pants” and that’s fine because TBH he is not that far off. However, I do think well-tailored pieces are a must. That doesn’t mean you have to subject yourself to some far from fashionable work pant. Wide leg pants are the perfect way to feel a little more trendy while still remaining sophisticated. You can easily dress these up with heels for the office and dress them down with sneakers for a walk in the city.
five: casual sneakers
Which brings me to my final item on this list. Casual sneakers. I hated sneakers. The last time I wore sneakers other than white converse (basic) prior to college was probably during my middle school days— imagine white Air Force 1s, denim capris, and an Abercrombie graphic tee. So when Adidas Stan Smiths were everywhere I considered them my gateway into the casual sneaker world. Recently I have also developed a love for Vans, which now I live in whenever I can. Let me be clear about one thing though. Those cloud sneakers will not be on my next list as I refuse to wear them, even with a cute summer dress. So please hold me accountable. Sorry 😬.
