What I’ve Learned from a Year of Blogging

It is crazy to think that it has been almost a year (as of December 27th) since I started en Rose! It is safe to say that en Rose has taught me many things- some expected and some unexpected. With New Year’s Eve rolling around, this is usually the time where people begin to make resolutions, set goals for the coming year, and of course make the dreaded “see you next year” jokes that we all roll our eyes at. Yet with it now being a year of blogging, I am excited to take this opportunity to reflect on this past year and what i have learned from this journey… and I feel like it has only just begun!

  1. doing it for yourself makes all the difference

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for selflessness. But at the end of the day, what keeps me going is the that I love blogging and it gives me a creative outlet. Right now, no one is pressuring me to be a certain way and the stakes aren’t high! I know that if I focus too much on everyone else’s expectations, then my insecurities will (and have) get the best of me. And where’s the fun in that?

  2. you can post as much or as little as you like

I used to get so stressed out if I didn’t write up a new blog post every other Monday! I felt like I was letting everyone down but of course, that wasn’t the case. Life get’s so crazy sometimes and unfortunately creativity tends to take the back burner when a lot is going on. Now that I’ve realized this I find that writing up a new blog post comes a bit easier and doesn’t feel like work, but fun!

  3. don’t go broke over an IG post

Just being real here! If you don’t blog full time and your income doesn’t come from Instagram, please don’t go broke over an IG post! I have learned to choose new items carefully and consider if I am buying it just because I think it will make a good photo or because I genuinely like the item. There is no use in buying an item simply for a photo just so that it can sit in your closet and never be worn again. Which brings me to my last note…

  4. don’t compromise your personal style for what you think your “audience” likes

It is time for me to branch out and try new things! As I am writing this blog post and reflecting on my old outfits I unfortunately cringe at some of the outfits I posted less than a few months ago! While in the moment I may have thought the outfit was fine, I have this idea of what I think my style is and how it actually comes to life. I strongly believe that outside influences can have a strong impact on one’s personal style and this year I look forward to channeling my favorite French trends and not being afraid to wear something a little daring here and there.

So thank you everyone for your support and encouragement this year! I am so thankful for all of the opportunities en Rose has brought me, the wonderful people I have met, and what an amazing learning experience this all has been. I can’t wait to see what this year has in store! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone.

xx, N
