Beauty Favorites

Over the years, the contents of my makeup bag have gradually decreased as I have finally found some of my all time favorite products that I use daily. While I am still on the hunt for a few more holy grail items, these are the few that I grab everyday, without a doubt.

I have wasted so much money on random drug store foundations, tinted moisturizers, and B.B. creams in an effort to find the perfect foundation and I could never find something that I felt like worked. Then I ventured into the world of higher end products, tried samples upon samples, and finally ended up with the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Tinted Moisturizer. It is safe to say that I am on my third (?) bottle of this stuff and I am obsessed. It evens out my complexion but I don't feel like I am wearing any makeup on my face. It's SPF 20, moisturizing, and doesn't oxidize throughout the day. It lasts me about 6 months so it is well worth the price. Perfect!

I apply this with a Beauty Blender, but prior to that I apply the Becca First Light Priming Filter. At first I didn't believe in primer and I thought it was a waste of money, but I have found this works wonders when applying your foundation. Depending on which type of primer you use, you'll get different results but I really like this one because it is brightens and hydrates the skin.

After applying primer and tinted moisturizer, I lightly dust on some Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder, and finally apply my favorite NARS Blush in a peachy-pink shade, which is a universally perfect color for almost any skin tone, making life easy.

Eyebrows are weird and I know my technique for filling them in is incorrect. But hey, Anastasia makes it easy because their DipBrow Pomade is practically foolproof. It lasts forever, and you can start with a little and build up the product if you want a more defined look. I don't really know if people with dark hair are supposed to have brows that are one shade lighter, or one shade darker because every time I look into it I get both answers, but I use the shade dark brown because I find that it looks the most natural.

I love Mac Fluidlines for eyeliner, and my favorite is in the shade Our Secret which is a dark brown with a bit of shimmer. Unfortunately, it is discontinued so I am rationing my little pot because the day it runs out I don't know what I am going to do.

LASHES! My favorite part. I used to do my own eyelash extensions, but that got to be excessive so now I just wear as much mascara as possible. My all time favorite is Covergirl LashBlast Mascara, but the waterproof one. This is key because the waterproof formula is basically magic and holds the curl in my lashes all day long. It also prevents smudging, because who wants that? I always have two tubes of this and use the "older" one first, and the "newer" one for a second coat. Weird I know, but it works for me.

For eyeshadow, I really have not found an eye shadow situation that suits me well and that I don't end up wiping off two minutes after applying it. But sometimes if I'm feeling adventurous, I will apply a champagne colored shadow and dust it over my eyelids, under my brow bone, and on the highlight points of my face.

I think experimenting with lipstick is so fun because if you don't like it, you can just wipe it off. I went through a phase a few years ago where I loved hot pink lipstick, but my days of working at Free People are over and now I tend to gravitate towards berry colored lip stains. I love Clinique's Almost Lipstick in the shade Black Honey (sorry, Jordan) and Burt's Bees has a really nice selection of tinted lip balms. And of course the Glossier Generation G Sheer Matte Lipstick is a fan favorite (even though I feel like it's not really a matte finish, which is fine by me).

Speaking of matte lipstick, I do love this one by Maybelline. The color I use is called Touch of Spice and it's a really pretty rose shade. For a classic red lip, the color Rich Ruby works wonders.
