7 Items All French Girls Have In Their Closets

I have spent a decent amount of time analyzing the French girl style, trying to figure out just how they piece together the perfect outfits while maintaining their so called effortless je ne sais quois, and I have to say it is not as easy as it may seem. I should probably retitle this post to "7 Items Sabina Socol Has In Her Closet" because she is my main inspiration for this one, but I feel like these 7 items are pretty consistent among most of the French It girls. Also quick disclaimer: I am not French, (no matter how hard I may try to be sometimes when it comes to fashion) so I am not an expert by any means. But thanks to Instagram and my Parisian friend Audrey, here are the few basics that all French girls seem to have in their closets- aside from your stereotypical berets and sailor tees:

1. KICK FLARE JEANS

Enter the inspiration for my post Yes, You Can Wear Kick Flare Jeans. It's true though, and the French It girls do it right. These look good with almost everything, can be dressed up or dressed down, and are just trendy enough to qualify as a key staple for French fashion.

2. silk tops

If I wasn't a college student and if Réalisation Par was free, that would probably be where my entire wardrobe would stem from. For many of the Parisians, this brand is their fave as well. They have silk tops and dresses galore in various flirty prints that will make you want the same dress in a million different colors.

3. WRAP DRESSES

Wrap dresses are timeless and chic, and thats what I love about them. They are super easy to throw on, especially during the spring and summer, and you can dress them up or down. As mentioned above, Réalisation Par has an abundant selection of beautiful wrap dresses. French It Girl, Jeanne Damas, also has her own clothing line, and what better way is there to follow French fashion than to buy pieces designed by Jeanne Damas herself?

4. A BASKET PURSE

According to French girls, a basket purse is a must and is not just for the summertime. Prior to the introduction of the Birkin Bag in the 80s, Jane Birkin coined the basket purse as she was always spotted carrying one around. Today, the wicker bag is just as popular and gives a relaxed attitude that is necessary for French dressing. It also matches everything!

5. ANKLE STRAP HEELS / ESPADRILLES / ANKLE BOOTS

Okay, so I guess this is 3 in 1 really, but it's true! In my opinion, you can never have too many ankle boots. They are all the same, except still so different. The same could be said for ankle strap heels and espadrilles. It seems that French girls tend to experiment the most with their accessories rather than their clothing.

6. GOLD PENDANT NECKLACE

I am all for delicate and dainty jewelry, so the fact that coin necklaces everywhere now makes me happy. If you look closely, all the French It girls seem to be sporting this accessory from Jeanne, to Sabina, to Adenorah... and the list goes on. It's one of those pieces that goes with everything and is not too flashy.

7. plaid blazer

As with a majority of the trends that I come across, this is one that I was not too fond of at first. Actually, I told myself (as I have many times before) that this was one of those trends that I would not grow to like, no matter what. Yet here we are as I write about the plaid over sized blazers that all French girls seem to own, and search for one for myself.
